Ortega replaced him and made an amazing save to stop Son Heung-min from scoring an equalizer, therefore enabling City to go on to win the Premier League championship in the last game of the season.

Ortega was highly praised for the stop, and The Athletic said Ederson was impacted by the good comments sent towards his backup. The atmosphere is claimed to be a role in the 30-year-old’s desire to leave amid attention from Saudi Arabia, but he has gone to social media to reject the assertions.

“My only thought at the time of the injury was to keep on in the match defending City in the fight for the title we had won, but the emotion of the match would be stronger than the reality and, inevitably, I would not be able to continue as I would have liked due of the damage it caused, totally blocking my field of vision.

“I keep concentrated on getting ready for the season.”
