Manchester United have reportedly renewed their interest in Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand as a backup option to their primary target, Manuel Ugarte.
Sources indicate that United have reached an agreement on personal terms with Ugarte, who is eager to join Old Trafford. However, the deal has stalled due to a disagreement over valuation, with Manchester United hesitant to meet PSG’s €70 million asking price for Ugarte.
This situation has led to speculation about a possible intervention in AC Milan’s pursuit of Youssouf Fofana, though Monaco has recently doubled their asking price for the player.
As a result, Football Transfers reports that Hjulmand is once again being considered by United. The report highlights that while Hjulmand is less aggressive than Ugarte, his strong positional discipline and experience with a possession-based team are valued.
United had shown significant interest in the Danish international during the January transfer window, even proposing Facundo Pellistri as part of a swap deal. However, it is curious that United’s interest persists despite their reluctance to spend €70 million on Ugarte, given that Hjulmand has an €80 million release clause.
