When asked about comparisons with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, Vincent Kompany answered.
The former Etihad captain spoke to the media yesterday as he works to prepare his team for the upcoming season.
Bayern are hoping to rebound after a disappointing 2023/24 season that saw them finish trophyless.
Bayern finished third in the Bundesliga, with Bayer Leverkusen winning the title and Stuttgart in second. The team also fell to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.
After ousting Thomas Tuchel, Bayern have resorted to Vincent Kompany, which shocked many considering that he supervised Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League.
Kompany gave a news conference on Monday and was asked about parallels between himself and his former boss, Pep Guardiola.
He performed an excellent job getting Burnley promoted to the Premier League and playing some fantastic football in the Championship.
However, Kompany’s style did not transition well to the Premier League, and the Clarets ultimately failed.
He will want to do much better at Bayern, and City supporters will hope to see the former Etihad captain succeed.
When questioned about parallels between himself and Pep, Kompany stated (via Bayern Munich’s official YouTube channel): “He is one of the most, if not the most, outstanding coaches of this age.
“People like him are always influential. I know this subject will constantly come up, and I have a lot of respect for him, but for me, the most important thing is to express my own thoughts.
“I adapt my thoughts to my personality. You learn a lot from your instructors, as well as from your own experiences. Of certainly, Pep Guardiola had a significant impact on me. But it’s critical to go your own path.”
Many managers now days want to emulate Pep’s actions or borrow and tweak his ideas.
His impact on the game is evident, and many are now turning to Pep as an inspiration.
However, no one can match him. Pep, City’s £378,000-a-week manager, has accomplished extraordinary things and has consistently reinvented himself – his trophy pile demonstrates his success.
It will be intriguing to observe how Kompany does at Bayern. Given Burnley’s relegation, some believe he was fortunate to obtain the position.
But he’ll now have some world-class players to work with, and given his intelligence, there’s a good possibility he’ll push Leverkusen and regain the championship.
