On Sunday, Adam Armstrong’s goal was the difference between the two teams when the Whites faced Southampton at Wembley Stadium. That led to Taylor Harwood-Bellis permanently moving to the Saints.
It also affected City’s transfers in another way though. Leeds is one of the teams connected to Phillips; however, the Mirror notes that their prospects of re-signing the City midfielder from City this summer are lost despite his attendance at Wembley due to their failure to gain promotion.
Men Sport advises Phillips to move on this summer in order to try to revive his career. Given his terrible loan performance in the second half of the season, it seems doubtful that the Hammers will pursue a permanent contract.
For all sides, a return to Leeds, where his exploits won him a call-up to the England squad and inspired City to act, may have been wise. Now that choice is off the table, though, the hunt for a suitable match goes on.
Phillips needs someplace he will play consistently to recover the player City observed upon completing the deal. If that falls in the Premier League or abroad is still unknown.
