£215m bid Confirmed: Mo Salah’s future has been finally decided by Liverpool FC today
Liverpool reiterate stance on Mo Salah amid reports of world-record offer from Saudi Arabia.
Al-Ittihad’s final-ditch efforts to capture Mo Salah before the Saudi Pro League’s transfer window ends on Thursday night are apparently met with resistance from Liverpool.
A world-record offer of £215 million (comprising £170 million plus add-ons) is reportedly being made to the Reds on Tuesday morning. A few days prior, the Jeddah club’s initial proposal of £150 million was turned down by the Merseysiders.
Liverpool Echo reports that LFC has maintained that the 31-year-old is not for sale throughout the entire situation, and they plan to stick to that position even if the Saudi champions make a better offer over the next 48 hours.
Liverpool “considers the matter closed and are planning for the remainder of the season with Salah in their ranks,” the source continues.
Liverpool may be able to hang onto Salah for the whole of 2023 at the very least if they can at least get through today without giving Al-Ittihad any reason to expect for a possible deal.
According to reports (from the Liverpool Echo among others), several members of the Saudi delegation assigned to try to sign the Egyptian believe that Tuesday is their last realistic opportunity to move forward with a transfer before the deadline later this week.
The Anfield management should be commended for maintaining their unwavering position on the issue up until this point, while other teams may have given in to the temptation of paying £150 million for a player who turned 31 earlier this year.
Salah is undoubtedly so important to Jurgen Klopp’s team that selling him now, when Liverpool can’t sign any new players until January, would be extremely bad for the team and the club and ruin any hope that had been building following a strong Premier League season opener.
Fortunately, it appears that the Egyptian himself has no intention of leaving Liverpool, which may be the most encouraging development in this unwanted transfer drama.
The Reds have persevered so far; all they need to do now is hold on for the next two and a half days to make sure that the worst case scenario doesn’t come to pass.
