BREAKING NEWS: It has been reported that Luke Shaw has been the subject of a heartbreaking news announcement this morning. 💔 This is a really unfortunate occurrence that ought not to happen to a football player. FULL STORY: 👇
Manchester United is reportedly worried about the possibility of Luke Shaw missing out on participating in Euro 2024 due to a leg injury, as per recent reports.
There are concerns within the club that Shaw might not be available for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. Prior to his return in late November, the English international had already been sidelined for over three months due to a separate thigh injury. Unfortunately, he faced another setback, being sidelined for an additional month due to a different muscle injury.
Shaw has been a starter for United in their last four Premier League matches since his return in late January, including their 4-2 victory over Newport County in the FA Cup. However, his recent performance, as reported by the Daily Mail, has aggravated his injury further.
During the match against Luton Town, Shaw, aged 28, was substituted off at halftime in the 2-1 win against Aston Villa. It’s reported that he is ‘likely’ to miss the remainder of the 2023/24 season, leaving manager Erik ten Hag in search of alternatives at left-back.
Tyrell Malacia has been unavailable throughout the current season due to a persistent knee injury, with his last game being on the final day of the 2022/23 season. Despite setbacks during his rehabilitation, it is expected that he will soon rejoin the first-team squad.
Ten Hag commented on Malacia’s situation, expressing concern over the prolonged recovery time but also noting progress towards his return to the field.
In the absence of Shaw, Diogo Dalot has been deployed on the left side of the field, while Sergio Reguilon, prior to the end of his loan spell at Old Trafford in January, also filled in. Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Sofyan Amrabat are among the players who have provided cover.
United’s injury woes are further compounded by the absence of central defender Lisandro Martinez until April due to a knee injury, along with the expected return of Anthony Martial and Mason Mount in the following month.
