LiVARpool became popular on social media after a disputed play in the Liverpool vs. Chelsea game.
The first goal was scored by Diogo Jota in the 23rd minute. He got past Chelsea’s defence and into the gaping net.
But just before Jota’s goal, Chelsea thought they should have been given a penalty because Conor Gallagher and Virgil van Dijk had a fight.
The Liverpool defender tripped the Blues midfielder as he ran past him in the box.
But match referee Paul Tierney didn’t point to the spot, and VAR confirmed what the referee had said.
The event made Chelsea fans very angry about the choice, and they made their feelings known online.
Someone on X wrote, “LiVARpool strikes again.”
This is not a punishment for Gallagher, said a second tweet. “The LiVARpool is at it again.”
Someone else said, “LiVARpool are a f**king disgrace.”
A fourth one cried out, “Absolute joke.” LiVARpool does it again.”
“LiVARpool strikes again,” said someone else. Not real. The Premier League really wants Liverpool to win this year.
To make things even worse for Chelsea, Conor Bradley scored a low goal before halftime to make it 2-0.
Reports say that after a string of problems this season, the Premier League will make a big change to VAR starting next season.
Recently, VAR has been getting a lot of attention because it wrongly ruled that a Liverpool goal against Tottenham in September was offside.
Arsenal then got into two different situations where it wasn’t clear if the ball had gone out of play before they gave up goals against Newcastle and West Ham. That’s right, the goal stood both times.
It was also called into question why Liverpool wasn’t given a penalty against Arsenal for what looked like a mistake. Howard Webb, the head of PGMOL, said on the show “Match Officials Mic’d Up” that a mistake had been made.
