MICHAEL CARRICK FINALLY REVEALS WHY LISANDRO MARTÍNEZ WAS SUBSTITUTED AT HALF-TIME AGAINST LEEDS UNITED

Manchester United fans were left concerned when Lisandro Martínez failed to come out for the second half against Leeds United, but Michael Carrick has now explained why the Argentine defender was forced off.

Following United’s 1-1 draw at Elland Road, Carrick confirmed that Martínez had felt discomfort in his thigh during the opening 45 minutes. The manager decided not to take any unnecessary risks, replacing him with Noussair Mazraoui at half-time.

The substitution also raised questions because Martínez had recently criticised Manchester United’s recruitment strategy following their Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid. However, Carrick’s explanation suggests the decision was purely related to the defender’s fitness rather than any disciplinary issue.

United went into the break with a 1-0 advantage through Bryan Mbeumo, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised shortly after the restart as Leeds fought their way back into the contest. The match ended 1-1, leaving United frustrated after dropping two valuable points.

Attention will now turn to Martínez’s recovery, with the club expected to assess his thigh problem before determining his availability for the next fixture.

For now, Carrick has made it clear that the defender’s withdrawal was injury-related, putting speculation about a possible fallout to rest.

The big concern for United is whether Martínez will be fit enough to return for their next match.
