LISANDRO MARTÍNEZ FACES A POTENTIAL OLD TRAFFORD EXIT AS HIS PUBLIC CRITICISM OF THE CLUB’S HIERARCHY REPORTEDLY CREATES TENSION

Manchester United could be facing a difficult decision over Lisandro Martínez after his recent criticism of the club’s leadership reportedly created tension behind the scenes.

According to Sky Sports, there are doubts about whether United will extend the Argentine defender’s contract, which expires next summer, although the club has an option to extend it by another year.

Interestingly, Martínez’s future was already uncertain before the controversy. Journalist Rob Dorsett reported that the World Cup winner pushed to join Atlético Madrid during the summer, hoping to reunite with his close friend and international teammate Cristian Romero. However, United received no acceptable offer, leaving him at Old Trafford.

Tensions reportedly increased after United’s disappointing 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atlético, when Martínez questioned the club’s recruitment strategy and called for football director Jason Wilcox and the hierarchy to strengthen the squad.

His public comments allegedly angered some people within the club, with reports suggesting a teammate confronted him during the journey home. United have yet to decide whether disciplinary action is necessary.

Martínez later explained that frustration and disappointment influenced his remarks. He stressed that he wants United competing for major trophies, while acknowledging the players’ responsibility for their performances and expressing confidence in his teammates and manager.

With United considering defensive reinforcements, Martínez’s future remains uncertain amid growing questions about his contract, ambitions and relationship with the club’s leadership.
