Manchester United Reportedly Step Up Interest in Giorgio Scalvini as Carrick Eyes Defensive Reinforcement

Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini as they consider strengthening their defence with one of Serie A’s most highly rated young talents. The 22-year-old has reportedly remained on United’s radar for some time, with the club’s recruitment team continuing to monitor his performances and development in Italy.
Scalvini has built a strong reputation as a modern, technically gifted defender. His calmness in possession, strength in aerial battles and confidence when bringing the ball out from the back have made him an attractive prospect. At around 6ft 4in, the Italian international offers an imposing physical presence and can also operate in a deeper midfield role, giving Michael Carrick another potential option for his squad.
Despite the growing speculation, there is no official indication that Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta or secured the player’s signature. Newcastle United are also reportedly interested and could provide serious competition for Scalvini. Atalanta are believed to be looking for a fee in the region of £40–45 million, which could make any potential deal a significant investment.
Should Carrick manage to bring Scalvini to Old Trafford, United would be adding a defender with considerable room for growth as well as valuable experience at club and international level. His combination of size, technical ability and versatility makes him an appealing long-term option.
With the transfer window still open, attention now turns to INEOS to see whether United’s reported interest develops into a formal approach for the highly rated Italian defender.
