Manchester United reportedly choosing not to pursue a deal worth over £100 million for Elliot Anderson may not necessarily be viewed as a setback if the latest claims are true.
According to reports, Manchester City currently appear to be leading the race for the midfielder, while United are believed to be reluctant to get involved in a prolonged transfer saga or exceed the value they feel is reasonable for the player.
Although Anderson is widely regarded as a talented and exciting prospect, United’s reported approach is understandable. However, when transfer fees begin rising beyond the £100 million mark, clubs naturally have to think beyond the excitement surrounding a single player. Spending that amount on one signing could reduce flexibility in strengthening other important areas of the squad.
