Walker, enraged, and Fluminense star squabble after Man City win
Manchester City won the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia by defeating Fluminense 4-0, but tensions flared after the game as Kyle Walker and Felipe Melo collided.
Furious Kyle Walker was dragged away by his Manchester City teammates after a collision with Fluminense’s Felipe Melo during their 4-0 win on Friday.
Pep Guardiola’s team added the Club World Cup to their impressive trophy cabinet as Julian Alvarez scored twice to help them defeat Fluminense in Saudi Arabia. After winning the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and Super Cup, this is their fifth major prize of the season.
However, tensions erupted after the game when Walker and Melo seemed to collide. It’s unclear what prompted the duo to clash, but Walker and Melo were seen shoving one other before Jack Grealish attempted to pull the City right-back away from the altercation.
A brawl broke out between the two groups of players, but it didn’t take long for the situation to calm down as City celebrated their fourth trophy of the season. Mateo Kovacic and Marcelo, who both played for Real Madrid, shared a happy moment after the game, as the rivalry between the two teams was palpable.
Soon after, skipper Walker and his thrilled teammates lifted the Club World Cup, making City the first English team to win five trophies in a calendar year. The other Premier League clubs to win the competition are Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
In terms of the game itself, City scored within the first minute when Alvarez tapped home from close range after Nathan Ake’s shot hit the post. Guardiola’s team extended their lead in the 27th minute when Foden’s pass deflected off Nino and sailed into the corner.
It took City until 72 minutes to score a third goal and all but seal the victory, as Foden tapped home Alvarez’s cross. This was before Alvarez added his second of the game with a stunning strike in the far corner, completing Guardiola’s men’s triumph.
