Casemiro once again showed his class as he played a major role in Manchester United’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brentford, producing a commanding display in midfield.
The result moved United to the brink of securing a return to Champions League football, with Monday night’s win bringing them a step closer to achieving that objective.
The Brazilian opened the scoring after just 11 minutes. Timing his run perfectly, he reacted sharply to meet a headed ball from Harry Maguire and guided his finish into the net. It was Casemiro’s ninth goal of the season, making this the highest-scoring campaign of his career.
United doubled their advantage shortly before halftime through Benjamin Sesko. Amad Diallo won possession in midfield before feeding Bruno Fernandes, who surged forward and delivered the perfect pass for the Slovenian striker to finish off a swift counter-attack.
In the second half, United stayed organised and limited Brentford’s attacking threat for long periods. Mathias Jensen reduced the deficit late on in the 87th minute, but the home side remained composed and held firm to collect all three points.
The victory keeps Michael Carrick’s side in third place in the Premier League standings, now sitting three points clear of fourth-placed Liverpool.
Several United players impressed throughout the contest, but Casemiro stood out with another complete midfield performance.
He recorded 85 touches and completed 86 percent of his passes, showing calmness and control in possession. Defensively, he was exceptional, winning 11 of the 12 tackles he attempted and constantly disrupting Brentford’s rhythm.
The experienced midfielder also made nine clearances, two interceptions, and won two valuable fouls late in the game to help his side see out the result.
Going forward, he remained influential as well, completing seven passes into the final third and registering three shots.
At 34, Casemiro continues to prove his importance to Manchester United, combining leadership, defensive strength, and goal threat when it matters most.
