The Controversy
United believed several key decisions went against them during the Bournemouth fixture. Although they were awarded a penalty following a foul on Matheus Cunha, they felt a second spot-kick was unjustly denied moments later when Amad appeared to be brought down inside the box. Adding to their frustration, Bournemouth immediately broke upfield from that moment and levelled through Ryan Christie. Former United striker Andy Cole was among the pundits who criticised the officiating, arguing that inconsistent standards had been applied throughout the match. Manager Michael Carrick shared that dissatisfaction, and the club subsequently submitted a formal complaint to the governing body.
The Response
According to The Sun, United are still waiting to receive any reply from PGMOL regarding their grievance over the penalty decisions. The core of their complaint centres on what they see as a contradiction: the contact that led to Bournemouth’s penalty — involving Evanilson — was, in United’s view, no different from the challenge on Amad by Adrien Truffert, in which the Frenchman placed both hands on the winger inside the area.
