Premier League English club have sacked their manager tonight after embarrassing defeat.
Following their latest setback, the Championship club sacked their manager.
Stoke City’s manager, Alex Neil, has been fired following a 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.
Despite a significant 18-player revamp over the summer, the Potters have only managed six wins in 20 league games, leaving them in 20th place, just two points clear of the bottom.
And the defeat against Sheffield Wednesday was the last straw for Alex Neil, who was fired earlier today. For the upcoming match against Swansea, Paul Gallagher has taken over as temporary manager, aided by Alex Morris and former Stoke player Ryan Shawcross.
Chairman John Coates thanked Neil for his contributions to the club while underlining the team’s search for a new direction.
He emphasised the importance of fast progress and the nomination of Neil’s successor to lead the squad to success.
He stated on the club’s website:
“Alex is a man of absolute integrity who has given his all for Stoke City, and we would like to thank him for his efforts while at the club.”
“We are grateful for the foundation he has helped lay in assembling a group of players in whom we have a great deal of faith in their ability to turn things around this season and who can help us achieve long-term success.”
“However, given the team’s performance thus far, we have made the difficult decision to seek a new direction for the team at this time.”
“Nothing matters to me more than the success of our club and we are now working towards the appointment of Alex’s successor.”
From 2008 to 2018, Stoke City was in the Premier League for ten seasons, first under Tony Pulis and subsequently under Mark Hughes.
They were one of the most difficult places to visit during Pulis’ rule, and their style of play made for a frustrating night for opponents.
They have not been able to regain their Premier League status since their demotion.
