The early excitement surrounding Michael Carrick’s time in charge of Manchester United appears to have come to an abrupt halt. Only days after being included on the shortlist for Manager of the Month, the interim boss suffered his first defeat at the helm—and his reaction afterward made it clear that he was far from pleased.
Following the frustrating loss at St James’ Park, Carrick reportedly delivered a fierce assessment during his post-match press conference, directing much of his frustration toward summer recruit Bryan Mbeumo, whose difficult performance played a major role in ending United’s impressive 11-game unbeaten streak.
The match appeared to swing in United’s favor when Jacob Ramsey was sent off, leaving Newcastle United with ten men for the entire second half. However, the Red Devils failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage and were eventually punished when William Osula produced a stunning solo strike in the 90th minute to seal a dramatic 2–1 victory for the home side.
While supporters were left stunned by the late collapse, Carrick’s focus remained firmly on his own team’s performance—particularly Mbeumo’s display. The United manager reportedly admitted he regretted selecting the winger in the starting lineup, accusing him of making costly mistakes that undermined the team’s efforts.
