The news is particularly damaging given Mount’s strong record in this fixture, including his decisive goal in the 2-1 win at Selhurst Park earlier this season. Carrick admitted the absence is a “massive blow,” acknowledging the difficulty of replacing a player who consistently thrives against Palace.
Mount has been sidelined with a knock and, although he has returned to light training, Sunday’s match comes too soon. There is cautious optimism he could feature in upcoming games, possibly against Newcastle or Aston Villa. Meanwhile, defensive concerns persist, with Matthijs de Ligt still recovering from a long-term back injury.
