Jamie Carragher label one Man United player as the best of the season so far

Ahead of Manchester United’s meeting with Everton, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher did not hold back in his assessment of Bryan Mbeumo, describing him as the standout signing in the Premier League this season. It is a view many inside Old Trafford would strongly agree with, given the immediate and lasting influence the Cameroonian forward has had since arriving at the club.

From the moment he pulled on a United shirt, Mbeumo wasted no time making his presence felt. His sharp movement, eye for goal, and growing confidence in the final third have transformed him into one of the team’s most reliable attacking outlets. Now fully settled, he continues to deliver decisive contributions week after week, validating the club’s persistence during protracted summer negotiations with Brentford. United’s determination appears even more justified considering he turned down interest from rivals such as Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur in order to make the move to Manchester.

Carragher’s comments came before kick-off at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and by the end of the contest Mbeumo had once again proven the point. In the 71st minute, he provided the assist for Benjamin Sesko’s decisive strike, setting up the only goal in a tightly contested affair.

Since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in January, the 26-year-old has either scored or assisted in five of six league matches, all under the guidance of Michael Carrick. With nine goals and three assists already this season, he is showing no signs of slowing down and will be eager to further boost those numbers as the 2025/2026 campaign unfolds.

His continued impact could prove crucial in United’s push for a top-four finish and a coveted place in the Champions League — a competition Mbeumo has yet to experience. For both player and club, the months ahead carry significant promise.
