The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially announced that FC Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong will serve a one-game suspension following his dismissal in the match against Real Madrid.
The Barcelona playmaker received his marching orders in the final moments of the Super Cup final after fouling Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe.
The decision by match referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero, which was upheld by VAR official Daniel Jesus Trujillo Suarez, has resulted in the Dutch international facing a single-match ban.
In the official ruling regarding the suspension, the RFEF’s judge for non-professional competitions stated:
“A one-match ban has been imposed for committing a violent act during play or as a direct result of an on-field incident, accompanied by a fine as outlined in Article 52.”
According to Article 56 of the Disciplinary Code, De Jong will complete his suspension in Barcelona’s upcoming fixture, which reads:
The Dutchman will sit out next Thursday’s Copa del Rey Round of 16 encounter, when Barcelona travel to face Racing Santander in a knockout fixture.
However, manager Hansi Flick will have De Jong available for selection when Barcelona return to La Liga action against Real Sociedad next Sunday.
