Liam Rosenior, who manages Strasbourg in France’s top league, has traveled to London as he gets closer to becoming Chelsea’s new manager, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.
Chelsea fired Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day after he admitted talking to Manchester City about potentially replacing Pep Guardiola. Since then, the club has been looking for a new permanent manager.
Maresca had a strong first season at Chelsea, leading them to fourth place in the Premier League, winning the Europa Conference League, and claiming the FIFA Club World Cup. However, the 2025/26 season started poorly, leading to his dismissal.
Rosenior, who was born in London and played for Brighton, Ipswich, and Reading during his career, quickly became the top choice to replace Maresca. He moved to Strasbourg in summer 2024 after managing Hull City for 78 matches.
Sources say Chelsea’s leadership has always liked Rosenior and had him in mind even before problems began with Maresca. The Italian’s departure has now given Rosenior the opportunity to take over.
Before traveling to London on Friday to sign his Chelsea contract, Rosenior told reporters: “I’m focused on Nice because that’s my job right now. There’s a lot of talk and speculation, but if you pay attention to that as a manager, you’ll fail. My job is here, and I love this club.”
The 41-year-old added, according to The Mirror: “No, I haven’t talked to the players about it. There’s no need—they’re committed and we’ve joked about it lightly. We’ve stayed focused on our work. The goal is to keep building something great here.”
**Chelsea Needs to Find Rosenior’s Replacement at Strasbourg First**
While other managers like Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and Cesc Fabregas have been mentioned as possible candidates, Rosenior has always been Chelsea’s first choice.
However, before Rosenior can officially move from Strasbourg to Chelsea, the club’s owners need to find a new manager for Strasbourg first.
Rosenior is currently under contract with Strasbourg until summer 2028, and sources say the French club needs a replacement before Chelsea can finalize the appointment.
