Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo is still very much ongoing, but an official announcement may take a bit more time. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has clarified that while United remain eager to finalise the deal, Brentford’s own busy transfer activity is slowing things down.
United have already seen two bids turned down — the first at £55 million and the second with an additional £7.5 million in potential add-ons. Despite those setbacks, the club is still pushing forward, hoping to secure Mbeumo as their third major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and promising youngster Diego Leon.
Romano reported that Brentford are currently juggling several deals at once, which has hindered their ability to prioritise United’s offer for Mbeumo. They’ve recently rejected an offer from Nottingham Forest for Yoane Wissa, are in the final stages of sending Christian Nørgaard to Arsenal, and are preparing to unveil Jordan Henderson as a new signing following his decision not to remain at Ajax.
These simultaneous negotiations have left Brentford with limited time to focus on the Mbeumo situation, despite United’s consistent efforts to move things along. However, the deal is not in jeopardy. According to Romano, it remains on track, with optimism that an agreement can be reached before United’s pre-season tour of the U.S. later this month.
Frustration is not only felt among fans but also from Mbeumo himself, who is said to be growing increasingly impatient as talks stall. The 25-year-old is expected back at Brentford training soon, and his return to England could potentially reignite talks and push the move forward.
Mbeumo is seen as a vital part of Rúben Amorim’s vision for United’s attack. The plan is to build a dynamic front line featuring Cunha and possibly Joshua Zirkzee, with Mbeumo bringing pace, creativity, and Premier League experience to the trio.
With Amorim keen to have his attacking players in place before pre-season matches begin, United are reportedly preparing a third — and potentially final — offer. Sources believe this could be the breakthrough that brings both clubs to the negotiating table with more focus and urgency.
