Arsenal’s Thomas Partey is unlikely to feature for the club for the remainder of the year following a minor thigh surgery he underwent in early November.
Despite his relative fitness during his time at Atletico Madrid, Partey has become a liability for Arsenal due to recurring injuries, with his latest setback limiting his appearances in the 2023/24 season.
The midfielder’s absence has been mitigated by the presence of Declan Rice, whom Arsenal acquired in the summer.

Considered for a potential sale in the summer after a lackluster end to the previous campaign, Arsenal chose to retain Partey.
However, this decision now appears to have consequences as Partey faces another six to eight weeks on the sidelines after surgery, and the actual recovery time may extend further, according to Simon Collings of the Standard.
While the surgery aims to address Partey’s persistent thigh issue, fan frustration has grown due to the midfielder’s frequent unavailability. Despite being a vital asset when fit, Partey’s significance to the team seems to be diminishing.

The timing of his surgery means he will miss the busy festive period, and the hope is for him to recover in time for Ghana’s African Cup of Nations campaign starting in January. If Arsenal opts against selling him in January, there’s a possibility that Partey may not don the Arsenal shirt again until February.
