Pochettino names Chelsea’s three penalty takers in the Premier LeaguePosted on 27 October 2023By Inyang Ifreke
Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, has made it clear that Cole Palmer is now the team’s go-to penalty taker.
Palmer, who joined the Blues from Manchester City this summer, opened his account for the team earlier this month when he scored from the penalty spot against Burnley.
Additionally, he made a successful spot kick in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
Palmer and Raheem Sterling were seen disputing before Palmer’s penalty against the Gunners about who should take the field.
“A few players who can take the penalty,” stated Pochettino. It concerns their emotions. We delegate decision-making authority to them as a coaching staff on the field.
There will be more than one player involved, and that individual will take the lead. Cole was clearly prepared to accept the two penalties he took.
If he is on the field, it will usually be him. However, if not, I would be content with Raheem and Nico (Jackson).
“Having the decision and the personality to go is what matters most to me.”
