Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney believes that Kylian Mbappe needs to leave Paris Saint-Germain to reach the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Mbappe has been an exceptional player for PSG, scoring 190 goals and providing 93 assists in just 190 appearances.
However, Rooney thinks that Mbappe needs a new challenge to take his game to the next level. He suggests that a move to Manchester United or Real Madrid would be ideal for the 23-year-old French forward.
Rooney stated in an interview with Sports 18, “I think he needs to leave PSG and join a club in the Premier League. PSG is a massive club, but I think he’s done everything he can in Ligue 1. Maybe a move to Manchester United or Real Madrid would be the right step for him to reach the level of Messi and Ronaldo.”
While Rooney’s suggestion may seem appealing, a move to Manchester United for Mbappe seems unlikely. United are currently in a period of transition under manager Erik ten Hag, and their primary objective for the season is to qualify for the Champions League.
Even if United manage to achieve their objective, signing Mbappe would be a daunting task. The Frenchman’s transfer fee would likely break world records, and his weekly wages of ยฃ1.18 million would require United to significantly restructure their salary system.
