BREAKING NEWS: Man United lineup FIVE players for sale with potential replacement named -as INEOS releases yet another £300m for biggest upgrade in transfer window ever

Manchester United have emerged as one of several clubs monitoring Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, though they are not currently leading the race for his signature.

The 28-year-old Argentine has been a consistent presence at the Vitality Stadium since arriving from Feyenoord in 2022, establishing himself as a key figure in Bournemouth’s backline. However, his spell with the Cherries appears to be drawing to a close after he declined to extend his contract, paving the way for a departure at the end of the campaign as he looks to step up to a higher level.

Interest in Senesi has been building among top clubs, with United recently identified as one of the teams keeping a close eye on his situation. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, via his YouTube platform, featured an update from Matteo Moretto, who indicated that the Red Devils are firmly in contention for the defender.

Although there had been speculation linking Senesi with a switch to Italy, particularly to Juventus, Moretto suggested it is almost certain the centre-back will not be playing in Serie A next season. Instead, he is expected to remain in the Premier League, where his strongest admirers are based.

According to the same report, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are currently ahead in the race, with Manchester United trailing closely behind the London clubs.

At Old Trafford, questions remain over whether reinforcing the centre-back position is an immediate necessity. The club recently extended Harry Maguire’s stay, adding to a defensive group that already includes Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martínez, Matthijs de Ligt, and Ayden Heaven. With five players competing for limited spots, strengthening that area may not be at the top of the club’s priorities.

That said, injuries have disrupted both Martínez and De Ligt for significant stretches, while younger options like Yoro and Heaven are still developing. This leaves room for the possibility of another addition, especially if a reliable and experienced option like Senesi becomes available on a free transfer.

Beyond his defensive qualities, Senesi has also impressed with his composure on the ball and ability to contribute to build-up play, registering four assists this season. Such attributes make him an appealing option for clubs seeking a modern, ball-playing centre-back, and United could yet decide to intensify their pursuit if they believe he fits their long-term plans.
