Man Utd’s bid to appoint Ruben Amorim takes new twist after Sporting Lisbon make fresh demand

Ruben Amorim has admitted that his possible move to Manchester United remains uncertain. Sporting CP confirmed on Tuesday that United intends to pay โฌ10 million to trigger the Portuguese manager’s release clause, following Erik ten Hagโs anticipated departure from Old Trafford. Despite signing a contract extension in July, Ten Hagโs position weakened after a series of underwhelming performances, placing United at one of their lowest points in Premier League history.
On Monday, United officially parted ways with Ten Hag, with the club currently positioned 14th in the league standings. Amorim, Sportingโs head coach, quickly emerged as the leading candidate for the role, having proven his skills in Liga Portugal.
Nevertheless, Amorim clarified that his future with United remains uncertain, highlighting that his decision will ultimately depend on his personal goals. During a press conference on Tuesday, he remarked, โRefer to the club’s statementโthatโs all for now. Manchester United has shown interest in covering my release clause, and if things become concrete, Iโll decide. But the choice will be mine, provided all factors are fully assessed.โ
He added, โIโll proceed as I see fit, as I have done throughout my career as a player and manager. At this moment, no final decision has been made.โ
