Reports in Spain suggest that Federico Valverde could be heading for the exit at Real Madrid this summer, with Manchester United emerging as a serious contender for his signature—particularly if Álvaro Arbeloa remains in charge next season.
United’s hierarchy have already shown their willingness to spend heavily in a bid to rebuild the squad. More than £200 million was splashed during the last summer window, bringing in the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, Diego León, and Senne Lammens. Despite that financial outlay, performances on the pitch failed to match expectations, and inconsistency lingered from the previous campaign under Rúben Amorim.
Amorim’s dismissal paved the way for Michael Carrick to step in on an interim basis until the end of the season. Regardless of who occupies the dugout next term, United’s transfer blueprint is already taking shape. The recruitment model remains data-driven, with each window focused on correcting specific weaknesses—last summer’s emphasis on goals now shifting toward midfield balance.
Against that backdrop, Valverde’s situation in Madrid has taken on fresh intrigue. The Uruguayan international has reportedly grown frustrated with Arbeloa’s tactical approach and man-management style. Sources close to the player claim he has already voiced concerns internally and made it clear that if the current coach continues next season, he would seek a transfer rather than remain under his leadership.
Valverde is said to feel that the manager’s philosophy no longer aligns with what the squad requires, and that dissatisfaction has gradually intensified. Should Arbeloa retain his post, the midfielder is prepared to push for a summer departure.
