Manchester United are already mapping out plans for a significant summer overhaul, with Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali emerging as a prominent target. Reports suggest the club see the Italian international as a potential long-term successor to Casemiro, who is expected to depart when his contract expires, leaving a major void in the centre of midfield.
At 25, Tonali fits United’s desire to move away from short-term fixes and invest in a player entering his prime. His Premier League experience since arriving from AC Milan, coupled with his ability to dictate play, break up attacks and progress the ball, makes him an attractive option as United look to rebuild the spine of their team. His leadership qualities and tactical intelligence further strengthen his appeal.
However, any deal would be complex. Tonali is under contract at Newcastle until 2029, giving the club a strong negotiating position, and they are under no pressure to sell. His agent has confirmed that discussions about his future will take place in the summer, especially if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League.
United would also face stiff competition from clubs like Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester City, while Newcastle are expected to demand a substantial fee. Even so, with Casemiro’s wages coming off the books, United may be willing to push hard if Tonali becomes their priority as the rebuild gathers momentum.
