Manchester United Have Submitted An Opening £100m Bid For A Barcelona Superstar After Michael Carrick Gave The Green Light For His First Summer Signing

Manchester United are making an early statement ahead of the summer transfer window after reports emerged that the club has tabled an opening bid close to £100 million for a Barcelona star. The move has reportedly been sanctioned by Michael Carrick, who is already having a strong influence on United’s recruitment plans as the club prepares for a significant squad rebuild.

Spanish outlet Fichajes claims United are closely tracking the situation of Jules Koundé, with the French defender viewed as a serious option if the conditions are right. Although United are expected to focus mainly on midfield reinforcements and a left-sided attacker, defensive upgrades have not been ruled out, particularly if Champions League qualification is secured.

Under INEOS’ oversight, United are undergoing a structural reset, with versatility and tactical flexibility now central to recruitment. Koundé fits that profile perfectly. Naturally a centre-back, he has impressed at right-back for both Barcelona and France, offering pace, composure, and high-level experience at 27.

Despite being under contract until 2030, Barcelona are believed to be open to offers due to ongoing financial pressures, with his valuation hovering around €80 million. While United are not desperate for a right-back, Carrick’s approval suggests the club would consider a marquee defensive signing if it represents long-term value.

The situation remains fluid, but United are clearly positioning themselves for an ambitious and decisive summer.
