Though United had three strikes ruled out for offside positions and Diallo struck the upright near the end, City appeared incapable of rallying back, especially with Haaland managing just a single strike across seven matches.
While United faithful honored Carrick, manager Pep Guardiola sat dejected as his team’s winless Premier League streak reached four matches, creating an opportunity for Arsenal to consolidate their league position.
United temporarily climbed to fourth position, a feat rarely accomplished under previous manager Ruben Amorim, as Carrick celebrated alongside his newly assembled coaching staff.
