Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior is preparing to hold talks with Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi to determine their futures at the club.

Over the summer, Chelsea worked extensively to trim their squad and improve their financial position by moving on players considered surplus to requirements. Despite those efforts, both Sterling and Disasi remained at Stamford Bridge after the transfer window closed.

Since then, the pair have spent the past six months training away from the first team. Former head coach Enzo Maresca had previously made it clear there was no route back for either player. Sterling has mostly trained alone or alongside Disasi, while the French defender has made a handful of appearances for Chelsea’s Under-21 side to maintain match fitness ahead of the January window.

Sterling has not featured for Chelsea since the end of the 2023–24 season, though club sources suggest his professionalism and positive influence on academy players have been appreciated behind the scenes.

Disasi is open to leaving either on loan or permanently, although both he and the club would prefer a permanent transfer. A loan move would be difficult, as Chelsea currently have no available international loan slots.

Reports this month indicate Sterling is hopeful that Fulham and other interested clubs will step up their pursuit. While he would ideally like to remain in London, he is not ruling out other options. He had attracted interest from Fulham, West Ham and Crystal Palace during the summer but ultimately stayed at Chelsea.

Rosenior has admitted he has not yet spoken to either player due to the demands of his schedule, but confirmed discussions will take place in the coming days. He praised Sterling’s outstanding career and expressed his long-standing admiration for Disasi.

When asked whether either player could still revive their Chelsea career, Rosenior stressed that no conclusions can be drawn until he has spoken with both the players and the club, adding that resolving their situations is high on his list of priorities.
