According to ESPN’s Monday report, club president Florentino Pérez convened with the Madrid board following the Celta defeat to evaluate Alonso’s position, with worries arising regarding his managerial approach and the output of crucial squad members.
When questioned about whether he believed he still commanded his team’s backing during Tuesday’s press conference, Alonso responded affirmatively with a simple “Yes.”
Addressing the circumstances surrounding the upcoming City match, Alonso had previously stated: “The squad stands together, the squad has belief. Each person believes we’re capable of securing victory tomorrow. There’s no uncertainty among us. However, to accomplish this, we must perform with proper tempo, energy, and a competitive spirit.”
Subsequently, midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni expressed his view that Madrid’s underwhelming outcomes — encompassing a 1-0 Champions League loss against Liverpool, along with three stalemates versus Rayo Vallecano, Elche, and Girona, culminating in the Celta defeat — shouldn’t be attributed to Alonso.
