Manchester United beat Chelsea on Saturday to secure three vital points in a must-win Premier League clash, but it didn’t all go smoothly.
On paper, Manchester United should have wrapped up the win against Chelsea in the first half, with enough chances to have scored four.
However, as usual with United, the finishing wasn’t good enough, and chances went amiss, which meant Chelsea were afforded the chance to get back into the game.
This came to pass when Casemiro was sent off late in the first half, complicating what looked like an easy win as Chelsea came back into it. United held on to win 2-1, but the red card could have been catastrophic.
Speaking to the press after the game, Amorim admitted he had forgiven Casemiro for the red card, but was it the correct decision from Peter Bankes?

Mark Clattenburg shares verdict on whether Casemiro deserved red card for Manchester United
Manchester United never do things the easy way, and against Chelsea, this was the case as Casemiro got himself sent off with two yellow card offences, which were entirely unnecessary.
It was a flashpoint within the game that set the second half up to be a struggle for United, but was the decision justified?

Speaking exclusively to United In Focus, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg gave his verdict on the incident, admitting Casemiro can have no complaints.
“Casemiro makes the referee make a decision when he dives in from behind to win the ball against Andrey Santos. It’s a silly challenge when already on a yellow card, and you can always make a case to issue a second yellow card for this clumsy challenge.”
Frustrating as it may be for Casemiro, the decision to grab hold of Andrey Santos was always putting his fate in the hands of the referee, and so there can be no complaints.
Mark Clattenburg responds to Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Redknapp claims
Responding to the decision by Bankes, Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports and Rio Ferdinand on X both suggested the referee might have been trying to even things up after showing Chelsea a red card in the game as well.

Clattenburg also responded to this, speaking to United in Focus, making no mistake about shutting down that suggestion.
“I don’t agree with Jamie Redknapp’s comments that referees look to even the game up; the referee has to decide was the challenge was a reckless challenge or stopping a promising attack and will issue the appropriate sanction based on the challenge.
“Nobody can agree about the first red card, so not sure why Redknapp made such comments about evening it up!!”
