Real Madrid’s manager, Xabi Alonso, has definitively put to rest the speculation surrounding Dani Ceballos’ future by unequivocally confirming that the talented midfielder will indeed be staying at the club. This development comes on the heels of a rather tumultuous week, which saw Ceballos reportedly agree to a deal with Olympique Marseille, only to have the French giants abruptly pull the plug on the transfer after Ceballos requested additional time to make a final decision.
Despite being linked with a potential return to his former club, Real Betis, Alonso made it crystal clear that Ceballos will not be departing the Santiago Bernabeu. During his press conference on Friday, ahead of Real Madrid’s highly anticipated clash with RCD Mallorca, Alonso stated with conviction, “I spoke with him, and the decision was made that he’s staying. My opinion doesn’t change anything. He’s staying; he’s just another member of the squad. And I’m happy with him.”
While Alonso expressed his genuine satisfaction with Ceballos, he diplomatically declined to elaborate on whether the player had been promised a more substantial role in the team. “The details, it’s better he tells you. But the decision seems final. He still plays the same role as before, and it doesn’t change my opinion of him.”
In addition to confirming Ceballos’ status, Alonso also addressed the possibility of Real Madrid making any further signings before the transfer deadline on Monday.
