Sesko reaches a provisional agreement while deciding between Manchester United and Newcastle
The future of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is still up in the air as Manchester United and Newcastle United intensify their efforts to secure his signature. Although a preliminary understanding is reportedly in place, the final choice now rests with the player.
Manchester United are especially keen on bolstering their forward line after a disappointing season from their main attackers, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who managed a combined total of just seven Premier League goals. New boss Ruben Amorim has wasted no time in trying to fix the problem, already sealing deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Newcastle’s interest, meanwhile, has become more urgent due to growing uncertainty over Alexander Isak’s future. With Liverpool believed to be circling the Swedish striker and having already beaten Newcastle to Hugo Ekitike, the Magpies are now fully focused on landing Sesko.
According to Italian journalist Nicola Schira, Newcastle have already struck a verbal agreement with Sesko on a deal running until 2030. Their next task is to reach a settlement with RB Leipzig to finalize the transfer.
However, Manchester United remain firmly in the race. Fabrizio Romano reports that the club is still exploring a formal offer, though the financial demands — potentially €70–80 million including bonuses — could prove challenging. That said, there’s mention of a “gentleman’s agreement” that could give United a slight edge based on Sesko’s preferences.
German media outlets continue to suggest that Sesko is more inclined toward a move to Old Trafford. Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has stated that both United and Newcastle have spoken extensively with the player’s representatives and laid out their future plans. Official bids from both camps are said to be on the way.
Still, not all voices are supportive of United’s interest in another young striker. Club legend Rio Ferdinand recently expressed his doubts, emphasizing the need for a more experienced forward. While he acknowledged Sesko’s talent, he argued that the club already has enough youth and should instead look for someone who can immediately lead the attack at the highest level.
Now, all eyes are on Sesko as he weighs his options. His next move could significantly influence the offensive power of either Manchester United or Newcastle for seasons to come.
