Onana, signed to replace long-serving David de Gea, has failed to inspire confidence, with his latest error leading to Crystal Palace’s opening goal on Sunday — just one of several costly blunders that have put his reliability under intense scrutiny.
Despite Onana’s form dipping, Bayindir, who arrived from Fenerbahçe, has barely had a chance to prove himself. The Turkish international finally made his Europa League debut recently but remains without a Premier League appearance. Fans are puzzled by his limited involvement, especially considering Onana’s inconsistency. Under Erik ten Hag, Bayindir was mostly overlooked, but Ruben Amorim has started to include him more in cup competitions. He has made four starts so far, including an eye-catching FA Cup performance against Arsenal, where he made vital penalty saves.
However, these occasional appearances have not been enough to satisfy Bayindir. According to reports from Turkey, the 26-year-old is keen to leave Manchester United in search of regular game time. His ultimate aim is to become the first-choice goalkeeper for the Turkish national team — a target that feels out of reach while warming the bench at Old Trafford.
Galatasaray has emerged as a strong contender to sign him. With long-serving goalkeeper Fernando Muslera potentially on his way out, the Turkish giants are reportedly eyeing Bayindir as his replacement. Talks are said to be ongoing, and several Süper Lig clubs have shown interest, although Galatasaray appears to be in the lead.
Bayindir’s fate could rest on how Amorim reshapes United’s goalkeeping hierarchy. There’s talk of a potential summer move for Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel, a highly-rated keeper who could come in and take the starting role. Amorim is also reportedly impressed with young academy talent Elyh Harrison, adding more uncertainty to Bayindir’s prospects.
If United do bring in another goalkeeper, Bayindir’s pathway to the first team will likely be completely blocked. Despite being tied to the club until 2027, he may be sold if a decent offer arrives. Currently valued at around €10 million, United could cash in if interest from Turkey intensifies.
