DEAL SIGNED: Manchester United finally sign a striker who’s a slight upgrade to Liam Delap
Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Aleksandar Mitrovic as they search for additional firepower up front this summer. The former Fulham striker, who currently plays for Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, has emerged as a possible option after United missed out on young Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who is now heading to Chelsea.
The Red Devils are in need of a more experienced presence in attack, with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee still finding their feet in the Premier League. Under manager Ruben Amorim, United struggled for goals this past season, finishing in the lower half of the league and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham, ending the campaign without silverware.
Mitrovic, who moved to Al Hilal in a £50 million deal in 2023, has delivered an impressive goal tally of 68 goals in 79 matches. However, with the Saudi club aiming to bring in fresh talent, they may be required to offload some foreign players to comply with league quota rules—putting the Serbian striker’s future in doubt.
At 30 years old, Mitrovic may not represent a long-term solution, but he brings valuable Premier League experience from his time with Fulham. That kind of know-how could benefit the younger forwards at Old Trafford, especially in high-pressure moments. Though his £405,000-a-week wages are steep, United could view him as a short-term fix who adds physicality, aerial presence, and veteran leadership to the squad.
While the idea of signing Mitrovic may not spark excitement among fans hoping for a marquee name, it could prove to be a pragmatic move by United as they attempt to build squad depth and create healthy competition up front.
