Manchester United could wrap up the January transfer window without adding a new striker to their ranks, despite showing interest in Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The club is exploring potential options to reinforce their frontline, but any major move hinges on players leaving—particularly Anthony Martial.
Manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly eager to improve the team’s attacking output, yet the current window is largely focused on departures. Without clearing space in the squad, especially with Martial still in the picture, bringing in fresh attacking talent could be difficult.
United had previously weighed up a move for Timo Werner back in November, but that idea was never seriously pursued. Werner has since joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan from RB Leipzig, leaving United’s forward search in limbo.
Insiders suggest Choupo-Moting is among the names being considered. With his contract at Bayern set to expire in the summer, the experienced forward could offer an affordable short-term fix. However, at this stage, no official discussions have taken place between the two clubs.
Serhou Guirassy is another striker who has caught United’s attention. Currently representing Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations, Guirassy is believed to be happy at Stuttgart and unlikely to make a mid-season switch, even with a release clause in his contract.
Looking beyond January, United have also discussed Lille’s Jonathan David as a longer-term target. With his current deal ending in 2025, there’s speculation Lille may be open to selling him during the summer to avoid losing him for a reduced fee later on.
