Manchester United completes another big-name signing as the world-class striker bid farewell to former club amid Man United’s move.
Manchester United are reportedly nearing a deal to bring Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo to Old Trafford, according to The Guardian. The club has made strengthening its attack a top priority after struggling in front of goal last season. Under new manager Ruben Amorim, United are shifting towards a 3-4-2-1 system, which has prompted a possible clear-out of several wide players, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho.
United have already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and have been working on acquiring Mbeumo for weeks. After reaching an agreement on personal terms with the Cameroonian forward, the Red Devils tabled an opening offer of £55 million including bonuses. However, Brentford rejected the proposal, holding out for a fee at least as high as the £62.5 million United spent on Cunha.
Recent updates now suggest that United and Brentford have reached an agreement on an initial fee, and are finalising the bonus structure, which could push the total value of the transfer to £65 million. Mbeumo is expected to earn around £150,000 a week, matching Cunha’s salary.
Mbeumo, who is known for his flexibility across the front line, is expected to slot into Amorim’s system as a right-sided attacking midfielder. His ability to play as a winger, second striker, or central attacking midfielder makes him a key asset in the tactical setup United are building.
The 24-year-old enjoyed an outstanding Premier League campaign last season, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists across 38 appearances. By comparison, Cunha registered 21 goal contributions. Their arrival is seen as a significant boost to United’s firepower.
Amorim is eager to complete all key signings before the pre-season begins to ensure full integration into his system. Following the completion of the Mbeumo deal, the club will shift its focus to bringing in a new striker, with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku emerging as a top target. Additionally, Amorim is reportedly seeking a new midfielder and a backup goalkeeper to strengthen the squad further.
United’s attacking overhaul signals a major reshaping of their forward line. Along with potential departures of Rashford, Sancho, Antony, and possibly Garnacho, United are setting the stage for a fresh era up front, with Mbeumo and Cunha leading the charge.
