Manchester United are on the verge of finalising a move for Bryan Mbeumo, with a formal announcement expected within the next week, according to journalist Anil Kandola of talkSPORT. The Brentford forward has been on United’s radar for several weeks, and after ongoing discussions, the deal now appears close to completion.
Despite being linked with a potential reunion with his former manager Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur, Mbeumo is reportedly keen on making the switch to Old Trafford. Negotiations with the 25-year-old and Brentford are progressing smoothly, and there are no major obstacles expected in the final stages of the agreement.
Meanwhile, exciting young talent Diego León from Paraguay is officially set to become a Manchester United player on July 1. United had already reached a pre-contract agreement with the teenage left-back during the winter, following a series of medical tests. Due to Premier League regulations preventing the signing of underage foreign players, United had to wait until León turned 18 to finalise the move. He has signed a five-year deal with the club.
León has made a total of 33 senior appearances for Cerro Porteño, displaying promising signs with strong defensive stats, including consistent duels won, clearances, and recoveries. Although still raw and needing development—particularly with ball control—he’s seen as a long-term investment for United’s left side.
His arrival may prompt a reshuffle in the squad, with the future of young left-back Harry Amass now uncertain. Amass had shown promise earlier in the year, but León’s presence could see him loaned out next season to gain more experience. Additionally, Tyrell Malacia, who ended last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, might now be allowed to leave United on a permanent basis.
As for Mbeumo, the deal is expected to cost around £60 million including add-ons. If completed, the Cameroon international would bring valuable Premier League experience and attacking flair to United’s front line. With both moves nearing completion, the Red Devils seem intent on strengthening both their immediate options and future squad depth.
