Man Utd fans demand four players are sold immediately after losing Europa League final
Manchester United fans expressed their frustration following the club’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, directing most of their anger toward certain underperforming players they believe should be sold. Despite both clubs finishing poorly in the Premier League, sitting at 16th and 17th respectively, they still faced off in the competition’s final, with a Champions League spot at stake.
In what turned out to be a messy encounter at San Mames in Bilbao, Spurs secured a narrow win over United for the fourth time this season. Brennan Johnson netted the decisive goal just before halftime, helping Tottenham clinch their first trophy in 17 years and fulfilling manager Ange Postecoglou’s promise to bring silverware in his second season.
For United, the final was another low point in an already disappointing campaign. The loss marked their first in this season’s Europa League, but it was the manner of the performance that angered fans the most. Supporters took to social media to call for a major squad overhaul, naming four players in particular they want gone this summer.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana, who has been under fire for numerous mistakes throughout the season, came under heavy criticism once again. His failure to command the defence and prevent Johnson’s goal led many to insist it’s time for him to leave. Luke Shaw was also targeted, with fans saying he reacted too slowly during the goal and hasn’t shown the sharpness expected of a seasoned player.
Midfielder Mason Mount, who had impressed in the semi-final, also found himself under scrutiny. Many fans said they had lost patience with him after another lacklustre showing in a high-stakes match. Several posts suggested it was time to accept that the Mount experiment has failed.
Rasmus Hojlund, signed for a hefty £72 million, was another player in the firing line. Struggling to make any real impact in the final, he was easily contained by Spurs defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. Frustrated supporters argued that the club should cut its losses and move on from Hojlund, with some saying he shouldn’t wear the shirt again.
