Hojlund managed to rescue a point deep into stoppage time by diverting Manuel Ugarte’s shot into the net after Bournemouth had earlier taken the lead through Antoine Semenyo. The home side had been reduced to 10 men following Evanilson’s red card, but United still struggled to find a breakthrough.
Hojlund’s goal was only his fourth in the Premier League across 29 appearances this season. While Fernandes offered his congratulations, he also used his post-match comments to underline the expectations attached to wearing United’s iconic No.9 shirt. Speaking to MUTV, Fernandes remarked that strikers are ultimately judged by their ability to score goals, and that playing as United’s centre-forward carries a heavy responsibility — something Hojlund is fully aware of. He went on to say that every player must capitalise on scoring opportunities, emphasizing that this time it was Hojlund, and everyone was pleased for him, hoping it sparks a positive run of form.
Despite Hojlund recording nine goals and four assists in 46 matches across all competitions, United’s issues in front of goal have been a major problem. Manager Ruben Amorim expressed frustration after the game, noting that although United had 25 attempts on goal against a 10-man Bournemouth, they could only manage a single late strike. Amorim stressed the need for smarter decision-making in the final third during his interview with Sky Sports.
United’s struggles are laid bare by their record of just 39 goals in 34 Premier League matches, a tally that puts them among the least effective attacking sides this season. As a result, the club is widely expected to prioritise the signing of a new striker in the summer transfer window, with names like Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, Ipswich’s Liam Delap, and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen reportedly under consideration.
