Man United’s owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe names the only striker Ruben Amorim told him to sign at all costs this summer.
Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on a new centre-forward, with ESPN revealing that Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap has become the top transfer target for manager Ruben Amorim. Despite club owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s personal preference for either Alexander Isak or Viktor Gyokeres, he has decided to fully back Amorim’s choice, acknowledging the manager’s strong desire to bring in Delap at all costs.
This season, United have struggled to find the back of the net, managing only 37 goals in 31 Premier League games, and the need for a reliable striker has become urgent. Delap, who moved to Ipswich from Manchester City for £20 million last summer, has impressed with 12 league goals so far. Should Ipswich face relegation, Delap would become available for just £40 million due to a release clause in his contract.
Although Manchester City hold a buy-back option for the same amount, they reportedly have no intention of exercising it, especially after securing Erling Haaland to a long-term contract. City are, however, set to benefit from a 20 percent profit clause if Delap is sold by Ipswich.
United’s limited budget this summer means they’re prioritising value and potential, and Delap has edged out more high-profile names like Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, and Benjamin Sesko. The 22-year-old forward has made a name for himself in the Premier League this season, delivering 12 goals and two assists in 30 appearances. His traditional striker qualities and impressive breakthrough have convinced United that he’s the right fit for their attacking rebuild.
