Liverpool coach Arne Slot names ONE Man United’s academy player who has been doing well at youth level but Ruben Amorim is not giving him the chance to prove himself.

Manchester United’s Under-21 side played host to Nottingham Forest Under-21s on Monday night in a Premier League 2 clash at Leigh Sports Village, delivering a dramatic 3-3 encounter that saw both teams share the spoils.

Travis Binnion fielded a strong United lineup, which featured Chido Obi after his return from the senior squad. However, it was Bendito Mantato who made an early impression, giving the hosts the lead just three minutes into the contest. The goal came from a swift attacking move initiated by Sekou Kone, who lofted a pass over the top for Jack Moorhouse. The midfielder sprinted forward and squared the ball for Mantato to tap in from close range.

Forest hit back midway through the first half as Zyan Blake broke through the United defense and calmly slotted past goalkeeper Elyh Harrison in a one-on-one situation. But United didn’t take long to respond. Moorhouse once again caused trouble for the opposition, slicing through Forest’s midfield before sending the ball wide to Mantato. The winger then delivered a precise low cross into the box for Obi to finish clinically, putting United 2-1 ahead before halftime.

The momentum carried into the second half, and just four minutes after the restart, Obi produced a sensational solo effort. After picking up the ball near the halfway line, he drove past multiple Forest players and fired a powerful low shot into the bottom corner to extend the lead to 3-1.

Despite appearing to be in full control, United were soon undone by errors. A poor decision from Harrison saw him race off his line and get caught out of position, allowing Kyle McAdam to chip the ball into an open net and reduce the deficit to one. Then, in the 88th minute, former United academy talent Adam Berry capitalized on another lapse, beating Harrison with a composed finish to make it 3-3.

In the dying moments, Obi almost grabbed a winner for United after dancing past his marker and driving into the box, but his low shot was expertly kept out by Forest goalkeeper Keehan Willows.

With little time to dwell on the missed opportunity, United’s youngsters now turn their attention to Friday’s away trip to Reading, followed by their final regular season fixture at Wolves next Monday.
