Manchester United have reportedly secured an agreement to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, setting the stage for a major attacking reinforcement in the summer. The club’s management did not bolster their forward line during the winter transfer window, leaving new manager Ruben Amorim with a challenging situation for the remainder of the season. A rift with star player Marcus Rashford, currently on loan at Aston Villa, has further complicated matters, while the available attacking options, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have struggled to deliver consistently. Despite these concerns, INEOS opted to strengthen only the defense in January.

According to Fichajes, United refrained from making a marquee signing in January because Gyokeres’ transfer was already in motion for the upcoming window. Reports indicate that an agreement has been reached with Sporting to bring the Swedish striker to Old Trafford for the next campaign. The 26-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s most lethal finishers, scoring 34 goals in as many appearances across all competitions this season.

Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and quickly became an indispensable figure under Amorim, impressing with his speed and clinical finishing. Even after Amorim’s departure from the Portuguese side, the striker has continued to shine, maintaining his reputation as a prolific goal scorer. His contract with Sporting runs until 2028, with a €100 million release clause, but reports suggest that the club is open to negotiating a deal around €70 million to facilitate the transfer.

United see Gyokeres as a key player to lead their project under Amorim, with their successful partnership in Portugal potentially translating to success in England. However, with ongoing concerns about United’s transfer spending due to financial fair play regulations, any claims of a completed summer deal should be treated with caution until further confirmation emerges.
