Manchester United’s urgent need for a clinical striker has become increasingly evident, given Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s struggles in front of goal this season. Højlund has managed just eight goals, while Zirkzee has netted six, with the latter often appearing more comfortable in an attacking midfield role rather than leading the line. Recognizing this issue, manager Ruben Amorim has prioritized strengthening the frontline when the transfer window reopens. Initially, he had hoped to reunite with Viktor Gyökeres, but the Swedish forward is focused on playing Champions League football, something United may not be able to guarantee next season.
As a result, attention has shifted to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, who has been delivering standout performances in Turkey. The Nigerian striker has been in red-hot form, registering 26 goals and five assists, making him a highly sought-after target for clubs seeking a lethal finisher. Napoli appears open to parting ways with Osimhen at the end of the season, but his substantial transfer fee and high wages pose financial challenges for potential buyers.
Manchester United, aware of these obstacles, has been exploring creative solutions, including the possibility of a swap deal. While initial reports suggested Højlund could be used as part of the negotiation, fresh speculation points to Alejandro Garnacho being the player Napoli might prefer. The Italian club had previously expressed interest in Garnacho during the January transfer window but was put off by United’s €70 million valuation. However, given Napoli’s need to replace Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, there is growing belief that a deal involving the young Argentine could be revisited.
Galatasaray, meanwhile, would love to secure Osimhen’s services permanently but may struggle to meet Napoli’s demands, making a move to the Premier League a more realistic option. With the summer transfer window approaching, United must navigate stiff competition and financial hurdles to finalize a deal. Amorim had fought to retain Garnacho in January, but as the season progresses, circumstances could shift, and the potential trade-off between keeping the young winger and landing an elite striker like Osimhen may become a crucial decision for the club.
