Chelsea Secure Deal for Sporting CP Wonderkid Geovany Quenda, Beating Manchester United to His Signature.

Chelsea have successfully secured the signing of Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP, beating Manchester United to the highly-rated young winger. The 17-year-old will cost the Blues around £40 million and has agreed to a seven-year contract with an option for an extra year. However, he won’t be moving to Stamford Bridge immediately, as he will stay at Sporting for another season before officially joining Chelsea in the summer of 2026.

Quenda has been making waves in Portuguese football with his electrifying performances. A dynamic left-footed attacker, he is comfortable playing on either flank and has impressed with his speed, dribbling, and technical ability. This season, he has made 35 appearances for Sporting, scoring twice and providing eight assists. One of his standout moments came in Sporting’s emphatic 4-1 Champions League victory over Manchester City, where he registered an assist.

Although born in Guinea-Bissau, Quenda has chosen to represent Portugal at the international level. He has already played for Portugal’s U17 and U21 teams, and last August, he earned a call-up to the senior national team for Nations League matches, though he didn’t get the chance to make his debut.

Chelsea’s move for Quenda continues their strategy of acquiring top young talent. The Blues have already secured the signings of promising South American stars Estêvão Willian and Kendry Páez, both of whom will arrive this summer. Keeping Quenda at Sporting for another year ensures he continues to develop in a competitive environment before making the transition to English football.

Manchester United had been closely monitoring the young winger, with scouts watching his performances for Sporting earlier this year. The fact that he had previously played under Rúben Amorim, United’s current head coach, made him an even more attractive prospect. However, Chelsea acted decisively to finalize the deal, leaving United empty-handed.

Quenda’s talent, versatility, and composure at such a young age make him one of the most exciting prospects in European football. While Chelsea fans will have to wait until 2026 to see him in action, his development at Sporting is expected to prepare him well for the challenges of the Premier League.
