Third Premier League Club handed points deduction after defaulting On transfer Payments

As of this week, Sheffield United is the third Premier League team to lose points in a row.

There will be a two-point penalty for the Yorkshire club the next time they play in the EFL.

United is currently at the bottom of the Premier League, nine points below the relegation zone. They are not likely to avoid going down this season.

If they fall to the Championship, they will have two points less to start the next season.

United will also lose two more points, but that loss will not count until the end of their next EFL season.

Because of problems during the 2022โ€“23 season, when the club didn’t pay other clubs as agreed, an independent disciplinary panel decided on the sentence.

The EFL said in a statement that “these mistakes added up to more than 550 days.”

Although Sheffield United has accepted to pay the EFL ยฃ310,455, they will lose points “if the club defaults on any payment due to another club under a transfer or compensation deal for more than five business days from the due date for payment.”
