Amorim, who has been steadfast in his implementation of a 3-4-3 formation, was adamant that his players must adhere to their designated roles, rather than abandoning their posts and switching flanks. The manager acknowledged that introducing a new system can be a formidable challenge, particularly during a difficult run of results.

Amorim refused to deviate from his 3-4-3 formation, even when United were struggling to create chances against Brighton. The team managed only one shot on target, a Bruno Fernandes penalty, and Amorim acknowledged that his players are still adjusting to the new system.

“If I wanted to impress the media or the fans, I’d play with two strikers,” Amorim said. “But I didn’t because it would be more difficult for the players to understand the way we play. I’m here to help my players, but we need to understand we’re breaking bad records, and that’s something we need to change. We need to take responsibility and own up to our mistakes.”

United’s defeat to Brighton was their tenth in 22 Premier League games, and Amorim conceded that his team needs to be more focused and disciplined. The manager pointed to a simple play in which Brighton scored, noting that his team knew about the opposition’s tactics but failed to execute.

“We need to be really focused on the game, and sometimes I feel the team is focused on a lot of other stuff,” Amorim said. “It’s a simple play, but we knew about it before the game. The only way to change things is to work really hard, win games, and have time to introduce new ideas. We need to be more resilient and bounce back from setbacks. That’s the only way we’ll be able to turn our season around.”
