Man United’s board bows to fans pressure agree £122m fee to sign Europe most in-form striker, player’s unveiling already scheduled.
Ruben Amorim has been encouraged to consider involving a Manchester United player in a potential deal to bring Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. Gary Pallister, a former United legend, believes Amorim could greatly benefit from a proven striker, especially with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to meet expectations.
Hojlund, a £72 million acquisition, has displayed potential but managed only two league goals this season, while Zirkzee’s form has been underwhelming, sparking rumors of his exit just six months after his arrival in the Premier League. Amorim reportedly has an eye on Viktor Gyokeres, the prolific Swedish striker he previously coached at Sporting Lisbon, but any move for him is likely to happen in the summer.
Meanwhile, Alexander Isak has emerged as a standout option for United. The Newcastle star has scored an impressive 10 goals in his last nine appearances, showcasing his exceptional form. However, Newcastle’s valuation of Isak exceeds £100 million, making a deal challenging, particularly during the January transfer window. Pallister has suggested the possibility of including Marcus Rashford in a swap deal to facilitate the transfer. Pallister believes Isak would significantly enhance United’s attacking options, describing him as a complete forward brimming with confidence. However, he also acknowledged the financial difficulties of meeting Newcastle’s high asking price, especially after United missed out on signing Harry Kane when he was available. Using Rashford as part of the deal could make the transaction more feasible, but it would depend on Newcastle’s interest and Rashford’s willingness to move.
Isak’s stellar performances have also caught the attention of Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta reportedly eager to strengthen his attacking lineup. Pundits, including former Arsenal players Paul Merson and Emmanuel Petit, have urged the Gunners to pursue the Swedish striker. Comparisons have been drawn between Isak and Premier League legend Thierry Henry, with his blend of speed, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing making him a prized asset. Tony Cottee even labeled Isak the best all-around striker in the Premier League, stating that his style and quality could elevate Arsenal’s title aspirations.
